My Company of Heroes 3 Review

As an avid player of Company of Heroes 2, I was excited to delve into Company of Heroes 3 and see what improvements and changes had been made to this iconic RTS game. After 43 hours of gameplay, I’m ready to give a brief review.

First and foremost, I wholeheartedly recommend this game. While there are some flaws, Company of Heroes 3 is a great step forward and brings a lot of quality of life changes over its predecessor.

At its core, Company of Heroes 3 plays a lot like Company of Heroes 1, which is a good thing. The faster tempo feels right and it was one of the major tripping points of Company of Heroes 2. However, it takes this faster tempo and applies some great tweaks that keep the game flowing smoothly. These include auto-reinforce toggle buttons, double click auto build for base building, and auto vaulting over cover.

In terms of factions, they all play well, though it seems that the US has the most depth in terms of variety of ways to play the faction. With three different support buildings and three battlegroups to mix and match, players have nine different ways to play. However, there is a flaw with the Brits that I’ll mention in the next section.

Now, let’s discuss the drawbacks of the game. Firstly, the camera zoom needs improvement. While there are mods that fix this issue, it shouldn’t be necessary to rely on them. Additionally, while the sounds in the game are great, it’s missing some of the situational awareness cues that you get from CoH1 and CoH2, making it somewhat inconsistent.

The Brits need some sort of defensive emplacement, perhaps a Bofors, as it’s the only thing missing in their lineup. Trenches are missed, Relic! Lastly, there are a few bugs, but nothing game-breaking. Most of the issues encountered are related to lobby-making and party-forming.

Overall, Company of Heroes 3 is a great addition to the franchise and offers significant improvements and changes that make the gameplay experience enjoyable. If you’re a fan of RTS games, then you should definitely give Company of Heroes 3 a try.
